This 20" drum is our largest handheld drum size and is quite something to hear. With large drums you get incredible energy vibrating from the drum making them ideal for healing work and ceremonies. The sound is booming with a big presence.
Crafted by renowned Navajo artisan Paul Tohlakai, known world-wide for his exceptional drums, art of drum-making workshops and Native Wisdom teachings.
Paul developed his signature antler handle and tie-off over 30 years ago. Often imitated, but never the same!
Each drum hoop carries Paul's signature for authenticity, please be beware of imitators.
Elk hide is adaptable to a wide variety of climates (compared to Deer which suits dry areas). It is a strong hide that sits between deer and bison in thickness, being closer to bison. The thicker hide makes it less sensitive to changes in humidity than super fine hides such as deer and kangaroo, and easy to travel with.
Paul Tohlakai crafts each drum with exquisite attention to detail, carefully tuning it as it dries. These are considered sacred instruments by the Native Americans and used in ceremonies for both healing and personal journeying. The animal is honored during the process, acknowledging the spirit of it which resides in the drum.
