Samson and Blue - Original Pastel Painting

Dedicated to the stallions Samson and Blue of the Pine Nut Range Wild Horses

see full description & specifications

This pastel painting was created as a fundraising project for the Pine Nut Wild Horse Advocates, a Non-Profit group who oversee the wild horses of the Fish Springs/Pine Nut Ranges in Nevada.

$1,000 of the painting price will go to the Non-Profit to support them in their ongoing work protecting these iconic horses. Prints are also available to support the fundraising.

Featured are the famous stallions Samson, and his sire Blue. Blue, of course, is the blue roan on the left, with his son Samson, a strawberry roan on the right. As you can see, Samson is being somewhat cheeky to his father, who appears to be about to put him well and truly in his place.
Samson is one of 21 horses recently removed by the BLM and has been gelded. The picture pays tribute to the way we'd like to remember him best - wild, entire and free! Samson's genes were very valuable to the genetic diversity of the horses of this range, his son Jet was also removed making it a further blow, one of his daughters remains to give us hope that the genes are still part of this pool. The Advocates for whom the funds are being raised for were able to successfully bid on 20 of the 21 horses at auction and thanks to them the family groups taken will remain intact and be homed at horse sanctuaries.

This painting is based on a photograph by the extraordinarily talented photographer Steve Rymers. Steve was very generous in allowing me to use his work for this project and I'm indebted to him for making this possible. He and his family dedicate so much of their time to documenting the wild horses in photos. My thanks to Steve for making this project a reality, you are an inspiration!

Dimensions: Painting (unframed) 28 x 20.5
PLEASE NOTE: The painting will be framed upon sale, please allow 3 weeks for framing and then delivery will be organised by courier. The purchaser will be kept up-to-date throughout the framing and delivery process.
The painting will be framed in double mats with a spacer mat underneath (important for pastel work), with a traditional timber frame and museum quality glass. Only archival quality materials are used. An option is available to upgrade to Masterclass Acrylic instead of glass for stability during transport.

Samson and Blue

Fundraiser for the Pine Nut Wild Horse Advocates featuring the stallions Blue, and his son Samson.

see full description & specifications

This fine art print has been created to raise funds for the Pine Nut Wild Horse Advocates who oversee the wild horses of the Fish Springs area in Nevada.
25% of the print price will go to the Non-Profit to assist them in their ongoing work for the welfare of these horses.

Featured are the famous stallions Samson, and his sire Blue. Blue, of course, is the blue roan on the left, and Samson the strawberry roan on the right. As you can see Samson is being somewhat cheeky to his father, who appears about to put him well and truly in his place.
Samson is one of 21 horses recently removed by the BLM and was gelded. His genes were valuable to the horses on this range and his removal and gelding is a huge loss to the genetic diversity of the wild horses in this area. The advocates were able to raise enough funds to successfully bid for 20 of the horses, including Samson, who are now on their way to Sanctuaries to live out their lives naturally in their family groups.

The original painting (also available for purchase) is in soft pastels and based on a photograph by the extraordinarily talented photographer Steve Rymers. Steve was very generous in allowing me to use his work for this project and I'm indebted to him for making this possible. He and his family dedicate so much of their time to documenting the wild horses in photographs. Thank you Steve for being such a generous partner to this project, you are an inspiration!

The print is available in two sizes 20 x 14" and 28 x 20'" (original size) in both fine art paper and museum quality canvas. Framing options are also available.
